"System management and monitoring tools are available from a variety of sources, including both open-source and proprietary. Open-source alternatives include Nagios and Zabbix. Both these programs have features similar to SCOM, but since they are open-source, they have a wide support base and are continually being updated. Both of these tools support agent and agentless monitoring. One of the proprietary solutions is available from SolarWinds. Their product supports both Windows and Linux, can monitor multiple thousands of assets and is also compatible with Microsoft applications and Azure."
