Question 25 of 25

Why do you want to work in this field?

"I want to work in this field because my little sister has asthma. Growing up, she would have severe asthma attacks where she would need to go to the hospital. I spent many hours watching the Respiratory Therapy Technicians and Respiratory Therapists work to help my sister with her breathing. They were very calm and professional and always made my sister feel comfortable. I decided then that I wanted to work in the same industry and help others like they helped my sister."

      How to Answer

Interviewers are looking for something personal, not the typical answer that you want to help people. Most individuals working in healthcare want to help people. Think about a specific time in your life when you discovered you wanted to be a Respiratory Therapy Technician. It could be that you want to be part of a team, or you have a family member in the field. Or, you might have a personal experience where a Respiratory Therapy Technician helped you or a family member.
