"When students are learning about fractions, I have a great lesson that appeals to visual learners who are trying to grasp the concept. Together, we create a pizza out of paper with several different slices and toppings and we practice identifying fractions based on where different toppings are on the pizza. For example, I might say 'put pepperoni on 3/8 of the pizza and olives on 1/8. I know students have grasped the concept when they can quickly shuffle the toppings around to show the correct fraction. It feels like a game to many of them because it is fun and interactive, and I have found students can easily transfer their learning back to worksheets after having manipulated the toppings on the pizza. It's a great activity and I've seen a lot of success with it."
