Are you mentally and physically prepared to handle the required shift work in our Critical Care fellowship program?

During the next three of training as a Critical Care fellow, you will be subjected to long hours, odd shifts, and coverage on weekends, nights, and even holidays. Shifts are often 12 hours (or longer), and your interviewers want to ensure that you are aware of the personal commitment and sacrifice it will take to succeed in their program.

Explain to your interviewers that you know their program will require you to work and train while working 12 hours shifts, 365 days per year. Let them know you are ready to take on this challenge, personally and professionally.

"Yes, I'm fully committed to the lifestyle required during Critical Care fellowship training and my future career as an Intensivist. I most enjoyed my rotations during residency training in the ICU and hospital medicine because the 12-hour shifts for long stretches of days fit my lifestyle. I am very active and fit, so being on my feet for long stretches comes easily. We also love the travel and the future work scheduled as an Intensivist fits that lifestyle.
