Which dentistry-related newspapers, journals, or publications are you familiar with? Have you begun reading or looking into any at this point?
With this question, your interviewers want to see that you have a keen interest in continually learning your craft as a dental student at Western University. While you may not currently subscribe to any publications as a prospective dental student, they want to hear that you are aware of the major dental organizations and their publications.
"I am very familiar with Dentistry Today and the Journal of the American Dental Association. I've already started looking into becoming a student member of the ADA, NDA, and ASDA. It's important to diversify where my news comes from, and I would love some fresh suggestions. What are your favorite places for news on current trends?"
The dental industry is ever-changing, and you want to talk about how you will stay up-to-date on industry trends, breakthroughs, dentistry-related concerns, and more during your time at the Western University School of Dental Medicine. List a couple of dental journals and organizations that you are familiar with. If you have any experience with the journals, talk about that experience and what you enjoyed about them. No matter how you answer, make sure to let your interviewers know that you are excited to jump in and learn from many different sources as a student in their program. It's also a great idea to ask the interviewers about their favorite ways to stay in touch on dental-related current events. Asking this question in return can make for great dialogue, and you never know what you will learn!
