Tell us about your volunteer experience.

When applying to Wayne State University, one of the non-academic factors you may have mentioned includes volunteer experience. These non-academic factors also include experience in a healthcare setting and leadership roles in student organizations, which will be evaluated by the academic committee. While having these factors is not required, they can positively impact your application and may positively affect your ranking against other applicants. Tell the interviewers about any volunteer experience you may have, paying particular attention to highlighting volunteer time spent with a healthcare organization or something closely related to your field.

"Sure, I would be happy to. I started volunteering when I was 15. I volunteered as a camp counselor at a summer camp I had attended since I was ten. Over the years, I gained seniority among the volunteers and worked toward a leadership and mentorship position where I trained and oversaw new volunteers. After graduating from high school and deciding to pursue a career as a pharmacist, I started volunteering at my local hospital. I volunteer ten hours a week and perform many tasks, such as visiting with patients, delivering gifts from the gift shop, cleaning rooms, and assisting nurses and other hospital staff when they need an extra set of hands. I enjoy volunteering and giving back to my community and plan to do so my entire life."
