Tell us about a time you had a conflict with a professor.

"I experienced this in my first year of college. I felt I wasn't fairly graded for my efforts. I advocated for myself, communicating as effectively as I could. My professor was at first stand-offish and told me to deal with it and do better next time. But I explained that I didn't understand why they graded me so egregiously on my grammar for a science-based project. After successfully communicating this point, they finally softened and explained that in the scientific community, communication, especially the written word, holds as much value as the work itself. I get that now."

In a healthcare setting, you'll often encounter emotionally charged situations. This question aims to gauge your communication style, emotional intelligence, and mediation and negotiation skills. You want to show your admissions interviewer how adept and effective you are at diplomacy and being able to de-escalate any volatile or emotionally charged situations with patience, fortitude, compassion, and empathy. Being able to separate yourself from a situation and observe your interactions objectively can go a long way here.

Share the conflict you had with a previous profession and describe how you exemplified emotional maturity, observed the situation objectively, and displayed above-average communication skills. Accept responsibility where appropriate, and share what you learned from the exchange, which preferably had a favorable outcome.
