At South University, we require all candidates to submit to a criminal background check and drug test. Do you have an issue with either of these requirements?

Working in the healthcare industry means you are in contact with vulnerable people, children, pharmaceutical drugs, drug-related equipment, confidential information, and other areas of sensitivity. If you have a criminal record, you must disclose this. Assure the interviewers that you are able and willing to pass a complete background check. If you have a criminal record, you can say something like: 'I have a misdemeanor on my record from 15 years ago. I am happy to continue the interview process and comply with your background checks if you allow for some exceptions.'

As with any interview question, you want to focus on being completely honest in your response. As embarrassing as it may be, if you do not think you will pass the drug test or have a criminal background, you must inform the interviewers now. If passing the drug test will not be an issue and you do not have a criminal history, assure the interviewer that you will have no problem passing both tests.

"I am happy to comply with any required background check and drug test. My record is clean, and I do not participate in drug use. You can be assured that I will maintain a clean record if you choose me."
