"When I first began working at my veterinary clinic for the first few months, I had forgotten one crucial step in checking in a patient; checking for a microchip. My doctor called me into his office and told me that I wasn't improving and I needed to step up because there were times I would miss a step. At first, I was very discouraged and felt disappointed. However, I knew that I was not perfect and I had to make sure I was better than I was the day before. Instead of apologizing, I asked my doctor how I could improve. At the moment, I understood that my doctor knew my potential and wanted to push me further, because he had high expectations for me, which I should have expected out of myself. So, instead of feeling discouraged and taking it personally, I began to write down every procedure of our clinic and go over it before my shift at work started. I would also ask my head vet nurse any questions about protocols and approve the work I've done to make sure it was correct. After disciplining myself to be better in a short period of time, my doctor saw my efforts and praised me for my improvement. Moreover, he decided to give me a raise because he witnessed my fast growth, vigilance, and thoroughness."
