What did they overcome, and how can you relate to their approach to research or animal treatment and care? Think about what this person discovered, created, or invented and why you admire their work.

"If I could go back in time, I would choose to meet Dr. Fredrick Douglas Patterson. He is an excellent role model that has illustrated his ability to overcome adversity. As an African-American veterinarian, when bigotry and discrimination prevailed, Dr. Patterson continued to advance the veterinary industry through his scholarship, leadership, and character. He has many notable contributions, including receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1987. It would be an honor to speak with him."
