Walk us through your approach to studying for exams.
The greater your academic performance, the better the university's metrics will be. For this reason, the interviewers want to choose dental school students who will be diligent in their studies and perform well on exams. Perhaps you create your own study aids. Maybe you prefer to prepare for exams in a group setting. Whatever your approach, take the time to walk the interviewers through your process in as much detail as possible.
"I am a well-organized student and have devised a plan that works very well for me. When I prepare for a specific exam, I will map out the content I need to learn and divide that content over the number of days I have available to prepare. When I create a study calendar, I leave the final three days leading up to the exam to review the entire library of content. I am a big fan of study aids, as I believe they work much better than simply reading and re-reading the materials. Aids such as flashcards are also much more helpful to me than highlighting my notes. I also create practice problems and, when possible, will pair up with a fellow student to test each other in written form or verbal lightning rounds. My approach has been successful, as reflected in my overall GPA."
There is no wrong approach to how you study for exams unless you have no approach at all. The interviewers want to gain insight into your organizational and analytical thinking skills to determine what kind of student you will be if accepted into Loma Linda University's Dental Program.
"I am a stickler for organization, so I have devised a method that works well when studying for exams. It is actually quite simple. I am a visual person, but I also remember things better when I write them down. For those reasons, I make color-coded flashcards and use a study partner to go over the flashcards. We study with flashcards for a week before the test, and the night before a test, we spend extra time reviewing the entire chapter. My GPA is 4.2, so I think my grades reflect that my approach has been successful!"
