Patient safety in the healthcare field is highly regulated and Swedish Medical Center takes the safety of patients, visitors and employees very seriously. Depending on the environment that you work in, safety can mean many different things depending on the potential hazards that could be present. Talk to your interview about safety precautions you take like infection control, eliminating fall risks or any other patient focused safety issues. Speak about any safety training you've had and how it impacted your work. Your interviewer will be looking to get the sense that you take safety seriously in your work.

"During my career as a nurse, I've taken great pride in the extra steps I take to ensure that my patients are in the safest hands possible. On my busy unit, patient safety starts with me taking all measures possible to not spread sickness and disease through proper hand washing and sanitizing procedures. When providing direct care, I utilize our patient checklists to ensure that I'm turning the patient in their bed as needed and have conversations with patients on the importance of asking for help when trying to get out of bed. Outside of patient safety, I always ensure proper housekeeping in our office and proper cleanup of messes in patients rooms to ensure that all fellow staff members can be safe as well."
