The ability to adapt to change in the clinical laboratory setting is an essential skill to possess because change is inevitable at Quest Diagnostics. Your interviewer would like to know about a time you were required to adapt to change in the workplace and wants to hear how you saw that change as a positive thing and adapted with a positive attitude.

"In my current role, there is a lot of staff turnover on our management team. I have had to adapt to three new managers in the past four years. It is not the ideal situation for a group of lab staff, but I have always managed the change with a positive attitude and being an open communicator with every new leader."

Talk to the interviewer about a time you had to adjust to changes on the job. Speak positively and confidently when discussing the change and how you handled it. If you were a positive influence on other colleagues, this is a great point that your interviewer would love to hear!

"I would have to say quite often throughout my career. New equipment in the lab can certainly throw a wrench in work processes, and I've witnessed way too many colleagues buck change because it threw off their work processes. I take the opposite approach and view changes as necessary for improvement. I always take the time to research and learn about new lab equipment, so I know their features and benefits and can hit the ground running when it arrives."

In my past role, working during COVID was tough, and had to deal with major changes constantly. We had many phlebotomists quit their jobs and as a result, had to deal with schedule changes, working extra days, and also taking on extra work. It is not an ideal situation but I handle that change with a positive attitude and take pride that I can handle whatever comes my way.
