The hiring managers at Progressive would like an idea of what a competitive job offer looks like to you. The goal of your response is to describe the compensation plan you're looking for while supporting your salary request with research and facts.

Since the HireVue interview is likely your first introduction to Progressive, you can give a high-level overview of your salary expectations. Overall, be open and honest. Transparency is the best choice when salary-based questions arise.
In addition to your base salary, there are many other factors to a competitive compensation package, including:
- Work/life balance
- Amount of travel required
- Overall medical and health benefits
- Additional perks such as car allowance, cell allowance, or a spending account
- Your level of interest in the industry
- The amount of vacation time offered
- The type of clients/customers you would be working with
- The office location
- Future career growth opportunities
- The size of your new team or department
- The company culture and its brand reputation

Before forming your ask, take your time to list the most important factors to you when considering a job offer. Then, do your research. You'll want to find answers to a few essential questions:
- How competitive is the candidate/job market for this role
- What's the market range for this kind of role in the insurance industry
- Does compensation vary geographically
- Does Progressive have a reputation for paying above-market value
When discussing salary, lean on your skills and accomplishments as justification. It's compelling for a hiring manager to hear about your achievements vs. only saying that you're worth X because that's the going range. If you are providing Progressive with precise compensation numbers at this stage, offer a range so that you leave room to negotiate.

The average HireVue interview takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. This one-way video interview typically includes 3-5 questions. Depending on the HireVue parameters set by Progressive, the asynchronous interview platform will generally give you 30 seconds to prepare a response and up to 2 minutes to answer each question. It's important to note that HireVue stops recording as soon as your time limit is up, so it's better to run under time than overtime.

"I can share what I am currently earning and where I would like to be in my next position. Currently, I am earning a base salary of 78K plus an annual bonus opportunity of an additional 10%. Last year my earnings were 85K, and I'd like to earn above that in my next position to reflect the MBA I recently acquired. Overall, I am looking for a compensation plan aligned with the role that provides an opportunity for growth. I look forward to discussing the details of this role so that we can determine a fair compensation plan."

Don't feel obligated to provide a specific amount - you might want to save that for the negotiation table. Instead, consider providing a range you've determined based on the research you've conducted for this type of role in this location. You can also choose to flip this question around and ask the interviewer what they're looking to pay for the role. Mentioning your desire for growth opportunities is a good move. And consider reiterating some of the experience and skills you bring to the table that merits the salary range you're requesting. Good job!

My salary is currently 22.50 hourly, but I understand going into an entry-level position, doing something completely different .. may be lower going in. My goal is to succeed so this does not make or break a deal.

Jaymie's Feedback
You aren't required to share your current salary information with employers, however, you can if you are comfortable or you can provide an ideal targeted range like 20-25/hr.
