Like any hospitality company, there are drug screens and background checks that are required. The interviewer is asking this question to week out individuals who may not be willing to comply with these kinds of checks. This question is the best time to disclose if you have a criminal record. Realize that full disclosure may not make you exempt from employment with Holiday Inn - they may just need to understand the charge and assess the risk. Be honest and open about your past without going into too much detail.

"I am more than willing to comply with a background check; however, I will disclose to you that I have a mark on my record from a marijuana possession charge 12 years ago. I was a teenager at the time and regret that choice. It's best you know from me as opposed to finding out through a background check. I am very interested in continuing with the process so that I can work for Holiday Inn if offered a position."
