The interviewer is trying to assess your communication skill level and whether it meets the standards of Eaton Corporation. Communication is more than getting everyone on the same page. It's about how a message is conveyed and ensuring everyone feels validated and heard. Functional and effective communication is essential to the successful functioning of any team environment.
Talk to the interviewer about what you contribute to enhancing communication in the workplace. Take care with your choice of words and what they might communicate.
Avoid crutch words, such as, "Like," "um," "you know," "so on and so forth," "and," "well," "but," "so," "ah," "er," "literally," "actually," and "basically." Whenever you find yourself struggling against them, pause instead. Doing so will present you as a clearer communicator and a professional.

From a business standpoint, I would say my communication style is formal and friendly. Formal because I believe it is important to draw a line between business and friends and friendly because I am almost always a positive guy. I worked at a couple of different jobs throughout my life, so I know how to read the room and what to say and not say.

Amanda's Feedback
This is a good place to start! Communicating professionally is certainly important in the workplace. However, this question helps give the potential employer insight into your level of self-awareness and helps them determine how well you'd fit within a particular team or department. Remember, communication isn't just about information you send out, but also how you actively listen or take information in. You can improve your response by sharing how you listen, process, or respond during an interaction. As with many other interview questions, it's also important to be able to provide an example or share the benefits or drawbacks of your particular style. This demonstrates you've taken the time to think about how you communicate with others as well as your own preferences around being communicated within the workplace.
