"I had a situation where I was working as a manager of a grocery store and had hired a family friend who was a single mom to work as a cashier. At the time, there were no surveillance videos to make sure the cashiers weren't stealing; the owner was a very trusting man. One day, I saw the friend I had hired put money from the register in her pocket. I pulled her aside and asked what she was doing, and she responded that the owner wouldn't miss the money and she was giving herself a raise. And she laughed when she said it. I told her to put the money back in the register and that she could leave and find another job. She begged me to stay and promised she wouldn't do it again. It was hard to fire a family friend who needed work, but I could not trust her after that."
