"Just yesterday, we had several sick calls, so I found myself performing data entry while answering the phones and booking appointments. I was also filing and greeting customers as they came in. I was doing the job of three people instead of just one. It wasn't easy, but I managed by giving each task my full attention until it was time to move on to the next."

"Just last week, I was in the final stages of a project when we were asked for volunteers to take on another project. I stepped up. Later that day, just as I was completing one project and planning the next project, one of my coworkers begged for my help with a project they were completing and needed someone to cross-check their work before submitting it. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed. So I asked them to cross-check my work while I checked theirs. We reviewed each other's materials, gave our work one more pass on our own and submitted it at the same time. This helped me plan for the incoming project, which my coworker volunteered to help with. In the end, this teamwork was a win-win for both of us."

Your interviewer is interested in how effective your work style is in multitasking, prioritising, and managing your time to ensure all deliverables are met in an efficient and timely manner. A civil servant is expected to "create and encourage a culture of initiative, flexibility and responsiveness, mobilising the Department to respond swiftly to changing priorities." Share your systems approach and how you evaluate priority while ensuring all deadlines are met.
