The interviewer wants to know that you are comfortable, and experienced when it comes to handling sales transactions. If you have experience with a particular type of program, you can indeed mention the names of the programs.

Try exuding more confidence in your response. Chances are, you have used point of sale machines as a customer, already giving you an idea how that technology works. Also, you have handled cash in your personal life, making purchases, etc. You know more than you think!
