"There are four key components in every Android application. The first are services that perform functions in the background. The next are activities which are what the user sees and it interacts with via the GUI. Another set of components are broadcast receivers, which listen for system-level events on the platform, such as incoming calls, SMS texts, and application notifications. The final component is the content providers would share data between with the various applications running with an Android environment."
