Please explain how sensors are used in Android.

Since Android operates on platforms that are typically mobile, it needs to deal with sensors used by the applications. This is somewhat unique among computer operating systems. As an android developer, you need to be intimately familiar with the sensors used and code for them. This is what will distinguish you from other software developers who have not worked on mobile platforms.

"Virtually every Android platform is equipped with sensors that the application uses in many of its functions. These sensors measure the device's different parameters, including its orientation, motion, temperature, and effects from other environmental sources. Most of these are hardware-based, but some are only software. Examples of sensors include accelerometers, thermometers, GPS, barometers, and other similar devices."
