It takes a concerted effort to make an informed hiring decision. This question informs them if you take your work home with you or watch the clock and leave it at the office. It will help them gauge how serious you are about your career by testing your industry knowledge, and your level of passion for learning more about your field. They want to know if you can talk the talk and walk the walk. They want to know if you pursued this career or just fell into it. It will also offer you an opportunity to show off your knowledge of your industry and how up-to-date you are.
This is an excellent opportunity to start a conversation, build a rapport with your interviewer, and connect. Discuss what recent news or changes you've read about. Exhibit your enthusiasm relevant to your field. This way you are exhibiting your knowledge and creating a personal connection. You want to exhibit a growth mindset at all times.
