The interviewer asks this question to gain a more casual insight into your personality, interests, and motivators. Having stress-relievers outside of work helps keep stress levels down and productivity up. This question also examines how well you balance your work life and personal life. A person can get burned out either at work or at home. They want to know if this is true for you, or if going out and partying every night, and being hung-over every morning creates an imbalance where your productivity would suffer.

Feel free to share the hobbies and interests that make you seem interesting and affable. Find relatable points of common interest. Strike a chord of seeming balanced in all ways. This will send the signal that you are a balanced and well-rounded person, which indicates you are predictable and reliable (desirable traits in a candidate). The less guarded you are about your personal life, the more it shows you'll be able to foster interpersonal work relationships. Your interviewer will take this into consideration when they are evaluating your fit into the team. Stay away from anything that might present a conflict. If you have a bowling league that requires you to take a lot of time off work, or a side business you are trying to build, you should avoid discussing those.

"Pretty much learning. I'm not one for watching that much television unless it is a documentary movie or series. I'm mostly about having new experiences and learning something new. Right now I am reading Steve Jobs's biography, and I'm watching a documentary series on the industrial revolution."
