"ETL stands for extract, transform, and load. It represents the process of gathering a specific body of data from a source or series of sources, transforming it into the desired format, and moving it into a target location like another database or a data warehouse. ETL documentation typically includes the data specifications and the rules for the timing of the extraction.

Many companies use automated ETL solutions. The teams I currently work with use Microsoft Azure ETL services and a mix of custom scripts and jobs they wrote on their own. I help my teams understand the impact of these solutions when business or functional requirements arise that require changes to these services."
