Remember to include a variety of learning methods within your response. You should be able to describe interview-based, data-driven, observational, and system demo-based approaches.

"The first thing I do when learning a new business area is gain buy-in from the management of the space I will be working to learn. I believe it is important for them to understand the purpose of my work and why allowing access to the people on their teams will add value to the product development process. I also ask for a high-level walkthrough of the goals and purpose of their group, the systems they use, and the teams they manage. Additionally, I ask them to identify critical workflows and opportunities for improvement.

After the initial meetings, I work to gain access to the systems that my users leverage on a regular basis. I dig around on my own so that I have a basic understanding before I move forward with any additional meetings.

Next, I shadow experts in the various systems and workflows that are critical to the business. I observe and ask questions based on my prior research. I find these sessions invaluable. They provide real-world usage scenarios and in-depth details on areas that are efficient as well as those that need improvement.

Finally, I review any additional data sources available. This may include training documentation, external articles, or information managed by the groups that support my new customers."
