Conflict resolution is an important skill to have in all aspects of life. The interviewer wants to see your interpersonal skills and how your emotional intelligence guides you when there is a conflict. Your answer gives the interviewer insight into your personality and how well you are likely to function with a team.

"Whenever I have encountered conflict in the workplace, I ask the person if we can talk in private to discuss and resolve the issue. I actively listen to the other person's point of view while remaining calm and non-defensive. I ask questions and reiterate what the other person is telling me to make sure I am clear about the issue. Then, I ask how we can work out the problem so we do not have an issue in the future. I have found being calm, addressing the issue, and communicating with others usually solves whatever conflict there is."
