Tell the hiring manager about a time that you have had to handle an under performing auditor. How did you feel about your method of managing this situation and would you do it the same way again?

"I have handled situations previously with under performing auditors. I follow a particular schedule when it comes to coaching, documenting, and then taking corrective behaviour if needed. I try to be an encourager first and will get to know why the auditor is struggling. I like to make a plan of action with the auditor so they are accountable for their own performance."

In my current job, I had an underperforming auditor. I asked why she was not performing well, but she had no reasons. She had a social media addiction which affected her performance. To help her boost her performance, I laid down rules and consequences of non-compliance with those rules regarding the use of the internet during work hours. Her performance improved soon after that

The fact that you used a real-life example is great! I have positioned the response to sound more positive. Terms such as "laid down...consequences...non-compliance...rules" are all very harsh when discussing human resource manners. This wording could give the interviewer an idea that your leadership style leans towards autocratic, which is rarely effective.
"In my current role, I had an underperforming auditor whose performance was directly related to her social media addiction. I approached her with my concern, and she agreed to discontinue using the internet for personal reasons, during work hours. Her performance improved soon after that."
