There are various reasons why a detective might have to work around the clock. One reason is if they are working on a time-sensitive case where every minute counts. Another reason could be if there is a significant breakthrough or lead in the case that requires immediate attention. Additionally, detectives may have to work irregular hours to accommodate the schedules of witnesses or suspects they need to interview.
Maintaining focus and attention is very important, even when asked to work around the clock. Assure the interviewer that you can do so by describing your techniques to maintain clarity and focus when working long hours.

"As a detective, I often work around the clock. I am able to maintain my focus and clarity by reminding myself people are relying on me to do my best every minute that I am working. The most recent case I worked on around the clock involved a missing child who was abducted in her front yard. Her older brother witnessed the abduction and tried to apprehend the suspect but was knocked unconscious. We didn't get the call until a neighbor found the brother and called 911. We had a lot of leads and surveillance footage, but it took us two days of working non-stop to track down the suspect and victim. I maintained my focus by remembering it was a child we were searching for who happened to be the same age as my niece. Regardless of age, I can always maintain focus because my job can mean the difference between life and death."

I used to work under pressure and with short deadlines. As a social worker, I had to deal with high workloads and unforeseen events that needed to be dealt with urgently. However, this never makes me lose my focus and I always overcome any situation. Prioritizing and time management help me to submit everything on time and keep my productivity up.
