"Edge computing refers to the strategy of placing IT Resources as close to the users as possible to decrease the latency of network transmissions and increase the performance of the IT environment. While this typically refers to computing assets outside of the cloud, it can also be used when architecting cloud IT infrastructures. An example would be selecting a service provider who has a data center near the organization's operations or which can be easily accessed through high-speed broadband networks."
