"In my current position, there is a lengthy orientation period for new hires. Many times, new employees were not meeting with the actual team that they were hired to work with until they have already been in orientation for 60 days. I felt that it was very important for new employees to meet with and shadow members of their team throughout orientation. After speaking with my department director, he agreed that having new employees introduced to their teams would be beneficial because they would be able to use their teammates as a resource when they came across anything that they were not familiar with. This change was implemented and now new hires meet their team and shadow for a period of time each day during new hire orientation. This has helped tremendously in establishing a working relationship between new hires and their existing team. When new hires finish orientation, they are comfortable asking for assistance when needed because they are already familiar with everyone on the team. Implementing this change has helped tremendously with the turnover of new hires as well as their error rates."
