With more than 50 child life professionals, Texas Children's has one of the largest child life departments in the country. The Child Life Department comprises various teammates who strive to positively impact the patient and family experience throughout the hospital stay. The team works to provide developmental, educational, and therapeutic interventions to support children and families as they adjust to the hospital experience. Not all hospitals have a Child Life Department. If you have experience with a department like this, share it. If you do not, it's okay to ask questions.

"I have never worked anywhere with a Child Life Department, but it is a great approach to helping a child transition into life as a patient. Being ill is stressful enough for an adult; children cope differently. I love the idea of allowing them to feel more at ease and prepared to receive care."

"Having a Child Life Department is an excellent idea! I know how difficult it is for some parents to help alleviate their child's fears and anxiety about being hospitalized or receiving treatments. Having a team that focuses on easing these frustrations is great! I would love to hear more about this department and what it offers."
