It always looks better if you have a good relationship with past supervisors, especially if you know they'll hop on the phone to give you a great reference. Think about your previous bosses and what they liked most about you. Use those words as an example for the hiring manager.

"I have a great relationship with my current boss, and he's very invested in my career growth. We've worked hard on numerous campaigns together, and I've never once missed a deadline. If you spoke to him, he'd describe me as hard-working, committed, passionate, and strategic. I definitely think he'd only have great things to say."
