"As a midwife, it is important for me to have a positive and knowledgeable approach with all of the expectant mothers that I work with. I start this positive approach from the first time that I meet with a new expecting mother and this approach really helps us develop a trusting relationship in each other. A couple of years ago, I was working with a high school aged patient and her parents as well. Knowing that these are often very uncomfortable situations for the parents and the expecting young mother, I approached my first meeting with them and stayed focused on the health of the mother and the baby and laid out all that they could expect from me and the pregnancy process. The young girl's father made it very clear that he was not happy with the situation that his daughter was in and my educational and positive approach with him never wavered. Following the birth of his grandchild about six months later, he thanked me for the great helping hand that I provided to him and his family."
