The interviewer wants to hear your reasons for choosing this profession to understand what motivates you in your career. They want to hear if another physician assistant mentored you, have family or friends who work in the medical field, worked in another industry and decided to change careers, or had a loved one who received excellent care from a physician assistant. Tell the interviewer your reasons for choosing this profession.

"I chose to pursue a career as a physician assistant after working as a paramedic for five years. I enjoyed working as a paramedic but had a partner who was going to school to become a PA. I helped him study for his exams and found myself intrigued by the curriculum. I decided to return to school and become a PA as it allows me to have a larger scope of practice and opens up more job opportunities. I am happy with my decision and love working as a physician assistant."

"I chose to pursue a career as a physician assistant because my mom and dad are both PAs. I love caring for others and helping make them comfortable when going through a difficult time in their lives. I grew up hearing the stories of the people my parents had helped and even those they could not. Still, I could tell that they truly enjoyed their jobs, and I think it's in my blood. I cannot imagine choosing another career path."

"I chose this career path after talking with a guidance counselor in high school. I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, but I was not sure in what capacity. After taking an assessment exam, the results showed that a career in nursing or working as a physician assistant was the best choice for me. I shadowed a nurse and a PA for one month and decided I liked the responsibility that comes with being a PA more so than nursing. I am extremely happy with my decision and never regretted the career path I have chosen."
