Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are becoming more and more common in the Nephrology practice setting for many reasons. If asked this question during your interview, you will likely be working alongside an advanced practice provider or two, and your interviewer needs to hear that you are open and willing to do this.
First, outline your experiences working with NPs and PAs throughout your career. Carefully outline their role in the practice and how you worked with them cohesively as one provider unit. To seal your answer, let your interviewer know that you look forward to working with mid-level providers at their institution.
"Yes, I've been fortunate to work closely with APPs throughout my residency and fellowship training and into my current practice. Right now, I have a PA in my practice that sees a full load of clinical patients, and she allows for more access for patients. I sign off on any prescriptions. We have built a trusting relationship where we can text or IM quickly if needed and share an office where she can bounce thoughts off of me."
