Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an internationally recognized professional designation, which is why many companies will ask for this certification from their Project Management candidates. Although it may not be a formal requirement, having your PMP designation will make you a more competitive candidate. If you do not have your PMP certification be sure to express openness to obtaining this designation.

You want to avoid answering with a simple yes or no answer. The interviewer wants you to elaborate on your certification if you have it and describe how you are willing to achieve it if you do not. You also want to steer away from saying you are not interested in gaining this designation since you will not appear motivated to the interviewer.
