QUESTION 15 OF 33

What do you like to do for fun outside of medicine?

Having hobbies and interests outside residency training is crucial to maintain a healthy work/life balance. With this question, your interviewers want to get to know you better as a person to get a feel for how you will fit in with your fellow residents and faculty in their program. They also want to know that you will have a healthy balance while training with them.

"My spouse and I have a lot of activities that keep us busy. We have two dogs that we love to take on hikes to explore new areas. We also love to kayak and play on the water. I love that your program would give us plenty of new areas to explore for the next three years."

Talk openly and honestly to the interviewers about the activities that interest you outside the medical field. Explain how these activities will keep you happy, healthy, and refreshed during your training.

"I enjoy baking and painting. I have always had a creative spark, and these hobbies let me unwind and relax after a busy day."

"I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, as well as with my dog! I also like to sketch, I have previously enjoyed sketching landscapes, still-life, and animals, and have recently been challenging myself to draw portraits of people. "
