As a medical student, what made you choose to pursue Dermatology?

"In pursuing a career as a physician, many factors influenced that choice. First and foremost, I want to help people live happier and healthier lives, and Dermatologists get to do that daily. Whether it's helping a teenager be more confident by treating simple acne or removing precancerous lesions, the work would be gratifying for both my patients and me. I'm also very driven by science and research, and I'm enamored with where future research will take this field. I can't wait to be a part of it."

You can shine by speaking with passion and vigor. From the ability to treat patients to the life-changing care you can provide, practicing in Dermatology has many significant aspects. You need to convey one or two things that draw you to the field and help make you a dedicated resident for the next three years.

"From my first year of medical school, I saw Dermatology as my calling. My Dermatologist greatly impacted my teenage years, and watching my father get life-saving melanoma care a few years ago was the tipping point. Saving lives and helping families thrive for years to come would be an honor."

"During my dermatology rotations in medical school, I was drawn to dermatology as a field that sees a variety of patients and skin conditions, from children to older adults, and from inflammatory conditions to skin cancers. I am also very visual and a visual learner, so I enjoyed the aspect of dermatology using physical exam as a very important component of diagnosis and to assess treatment. I was also inspired by the quality of life improvement my mentors in dermatology could provide for their patients, and hope to do the same during my career."
