Audra Kresinske is an educator with over 7 years experience teaching English and employment readiness skills.
"As of right now, I want to focus my next three years on becoming a well-rounded Dermatologist in the clinical and research setting. As I learn and grow with your program, one potential path I would likely consider is fellowship training in cutaneous oncology. Cancer treatment can be so impactful on patients and would be a challenging yet rewarding practice."
"I am very interested in incorporating pediatric care into my future practice and can't wait for my pediatric rotations with your program. I'd have to see how I feel in a couple of years before I pursue additional fellowship training in this subspecialty of Dermatology."
When your interviewers ask you this question, they genuinely want to know what interests you within the Dermatology field and where your training path will take you in your career. Dermatology has many career paths, and candidates may have interests in various aspects of it. Some residents pursue Dermatology training with the plan of being a clinician. Others know that they would eventually like to specialize in Dermatopathology or Pediatric Dermatology.
Try your best to be genuine in your answer and show your passion about why you are attracted to a future in practice. This would not be a time to mention interests outside the scope of a Dermatologist.

Sara Yumeen is a Dermatology resident physician.
"I am interested in practicing as a medical dermatologist. While I am open to other opportunities that may arise, I am currently most interested in supportive oncodermatology. I hope to care for patients with cancers as they receive chemotherapy to improve their quality of life. I am currently not planning to pursue a fellowship."
