Sub-nets as the name implies are Sub Networks. The use of subset is essential for maintaining a network and keeping it secure. For example in a school you may encounter the staff sub-net and the student sub-net, this approach not only helps when managing devices, since you can apply certain configurations in a blanket manner to all devices on the sub-net, but it impedes any malicious actor with access to the student network to jump and compromise the staff's network. A few decades ago before the invention of the Vlans, the primary and only method of logically isolating devices or groups of devices was using sub-nets. Still, in today's landscape sub-nets are essential to ensure you don't have a flat network vulnerable to malicious actors jumping from box to box in your network.

Amanda's Feedback
I like that you discuss security in your response because cyber security is always a top priority in our digital environment. You can expand this answer even further by defining a sub-net as a segmented piece of a larger network and talking about how subnetworks also improve network efficiency by minimizing traffic.
