When a medical student receives federal assistance through loans or grants, some may see it as an unfair advantage for them to have the first pick of where they practice after completing medical school. On the other hand, some people don't care...so long as the best talent is being put to good use. You can share your thoughts on this with the UMMS admissions interviewer but remain positive and show your ability to see both sides.

"I believe that, because there is such a huge shortage of physicians in rural areas, that students receiving federal assistance should do their part by practicing in these areas for a certain amount of time. I do understand that this may seem unfair; however, there could be exceptions for certain rarer specialties or medical students who have exceptional grades, for example."
