It is rarely possible to plan for the difficulties we may face. However, being flexible in your approach and being able to adapt your priorities accordingly should be the aim of your answer. Every dental student faces academic challenges. When suffering a setback, it is essential to not allow your emotions or stress to get the best of you and dictate your behavior and responses. Your admissions interviewer is looking for assurances that you will handle these difficulties with as much emotional intelligence and poise as possible. Discuss your approach in detail and how it has benefitted you in the past.

"When I encountered academic difficulty in the past, I recognized the issue early and approached my professor for additional information or study resources. With these resources, I either increase the time spent reviewing the class material or engage another person to increase my understanding of the topic. For instance, during my biophysical chemistry class this year, I fell behind as we approached the subject of molecular interactions. To ensure my success, I hired a Department of Chemistry tutor. This approach was beneficial, and I gained a much clearer understanding of the subject, which improved my grade. Should I face difficulties while attending dental school, I will not hesitate to seek outside assistance."
