Your admissions interviewers want to see evidence that you plan on making a positive and lasting impact on the dental profession. Their university places a lot of emphasis on research and innovation through integrative health care. As stated by Denise Kassebaum, DDS, MS, Professor, and Dean, "The School of Dental Medicine believes dental health is critical to overall health, and we are dedicated to integrating dentistry and the other health professions through our innovative educational programs, real-world research, exceptional patient care, and life-changing community outreach initiatives. Believing that there should not be a distinction between dental and systemic health, the SDM emphasizes our intention to integrate 'dental' to improve health."
They also state on their website, "The University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (CU SDM), a collaborative partner on the Anschutz Medical Campus, is a diverse learning, clinical care, and research community. The CU SDM is committed to integrated health that innovates, treats and discovers for the well-being of and in service to local and global communities."
Perform your research on the university and yourself to study and determine how your values align in every way, and take note of your shared values and vision. This is necessary to provide a specific and memorable response. Share your passion and enthusiasm for how you intend to improve the dental profession while using your skills for the greater good.

"I have chosen to become a dentist because of the broad impact I can make on my patients, their families, and my community. Being a dentist is a career where I can impact others by getting to know my patients better than most healthcare providers can. I say this because the mouth and the state of one's mouth have an incredible influence on someone's confidence level. The mouth also impacts many health aspects, including how and what someone eats and drinks, their sleep quality, and even how they talk. I will improve the profession by bringing this whole-health knowledge and mindset to my patients. When my patients feel motivated and empowered to take their entire health into their hands, it will create a trickle-down effect on other aspects of their lives, including their family members' well-being. This ripple will help create greater respect for oral health care, improving how the public views our profession and how often a patient visits the dentist."
