Before your admissions interview, you should research areas of specialty that are offered in dentistry. Then, be clear on which specializations are most interesting to you. Some branches of dentistry are:
- Pediatrics
- Periodontics
- Endodontics
- Orthodontics
- Prosthodontics
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery...and more
Talk to the Admissions Committee at CMD about the specialty that interests you the most, and include details on why. When responding, let your passion shine through for this specialty while also showing an openness to all potential focus areas available to you.

"Periodontics is one area of dentistry that is most interesting to me right now. I became especially interested in specializing in the placement and maintenance of dental implants after personally experiencing how dental implants can make a significant difference in someone's life. Two years ago, I lost a front tooth in a car accident and had to have a dental implant. The periodontist who performed the implant surgery was incredibly skilled, and their work gave so much self-esteem back. I am excited to learn how to perform advanced oral plastic surgical procedures and be able to make a difference in the lives of others through this essential specialization."
