When working as a dental professional, you will face various sights and experience numerous scenarios that might make a person feel queasy. Columbia University's Admissions Committee wants to know that you are confident in your ability to handle the sights and experiences you may encounter throughout your dentistry and oral medicine career.
Openly discuss your ability to handle events involving blood and other bodily fluids. If you have encountered a relevant situation, consider telling a brief story that provides evidence of your ability to manage these scenarios. If you tell a story, consider forming it using the STAR framework. STAR is an acronym for Situation, Task, Action, Result.

"I have never been a queasy individual, and I fully understand the cases I will encounter while working in dentistry. I currently volunteer part-time at a free clinic and have seen many situations involving blood and such. I don't think about these situations are gore. Rather, I focus on the fact that this is a human being who needs my help. I believe this mentality will get me through any situation during my career in oral medicine."
