What are the major components of a product roadmap, and why are they important?

Remember to discuss all the product phases that might be represented in a product roadmap. That includes product ideation activities, as well as those needed to support the end-of-life of a product.

"Product roadmaps are used to communicate the phases of product development and the progress toward them. They are important because they help leaders understand dependencies, the importance of timing, and the downstream effect of any delays that occur.

Product roadmaps communicate the activities and the timelines for product planning, sales, development, marketing, implementation, support, and end-of-life. Roadmaps demonstrate milestones and the groups that are responsible for achieving them."
