There are a few different specialty options for people pursuing NP school. Talking about the specialty you are most interested in is an excellent opportunity to express your purpose or 'why' towards attending their program. It could be that you worked in an outpatient mental health facility, and that drove you to want to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP).

"My goal is to become an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP). I have worked in the emergency room department for over ten years, and it is truly my favorite place to practice. There is always something new or a unique case that looks like nothing you have seen before challenging you intellectually. Becoming an ACNP would allow me to further my passions and learn more skills to treat the life-threatening conditions that acute care environments face."
