"To build culture, I plan to ask more of myself. Vision starts and ends with me. Then, when I have students on-board, real change can take place for the better. I want culture to be something that students come back for because of the commitment they had at the very beginning."

Building a culture is how you build your choir program. I attended a session at a conference that talked all about building a choral community, there were many amazing ideas. My favorite idea was having a choir camp. Building cultures starts with the director, with their vision. Then they get students on board, and from there you create a perpetual culture.

Amanda's Feedback
Fostering an inclusive and positive choral culture isn't done by accident. It takes purposeful action guided by a strong vision. Building that culture starts with good communication that builds rapport with members. It's also important that members feel you are approachable so that they can ask questions, discuss concerns, and share about the things they love and enjoy about the choir. Building a culture also requires having a structured rehearsal plan. Having a plan creates an atmosphere of calm and preparation that ultimately helps you achieve much better results.
