Detroit Mercy Dental "seeks to increase the applicant pool of students from historically underrepresented race/ethnicity (HURE) groups and first-generation students..." The University states, "Guided by our mission as a Jesuit & Mercy institution, in alignment with the values of social justice and equity, our vision of diversity also includes individuals from educationally and economically disadvantaged populations..."

"I am thankful that Detroit Mercy is conscious of its diversity efforts. I felt relieved when I read that this University aims to increase the applicant pool of students from historically underrepresented groups and also focuses on attracting first-generation students. I am a first-generation student and will be the first in my family to complete post-secondary education, including being the first to work in the healthcare field. My undergrad education taught me more about the importance of diversity, inclusion, and belonging. While attending the University XYZ, I took coursework on gender history, social justice, equity, and diversity. During this coursework, I learned how viewpoints have changed over the years and how society continues to demand improvements in social justice and equality. I am eager to support Detroit Mercy's diversity efforts while also finding a comfortable environment for myself to attend my graduate studies."
