Where do you want to be professionally in five years?

"I would like to be a principal consultant in five years. I enjoy working as a leader and a subject matter expert across multiple projects. My clients see me as a trusted partner, and I want to continue growing in that role. I also want to earn my Six Sigma Black Belt certification by then. I feel that would be an impressive certification to pair with the MBA I hope to earn here at Kellogg."

Your interviewer at Kellogg is interested to know where you see yourself in the future. They ask to learn more about your goals and ability to articulate a long-term plan for success.

Keep your answer brief, and be sure to describe a future that is reasonable based on your current position. For example, if you are currently a manager and there are seven roles between your role and VP of Operations, it is unlikely you would be there in five years - even with your MBA. While you may eventually get there, that goal would be better suited for a long-term goal question. Aim for something that is a significant step up from where you are now and show your interviewer you've invested time envisioning a successful future.
